Here at Ocean Mind Coffee Co., marine conservation and environmental sustainability is important to us. So much so, we believe it should be front of mind for everyone involved in any activity that takes place in, on and around the water – including those of you who just like looking at it!

As ocean users – surfing, boating, fishing, diving, paddling, swimming, sailing, cruising, relaxing on the beach or working on the high seas – we’re all aware of a few facts:

covering around three quarters of the Earth’s surface, the ocean is the world’s largest ecosystem and home to nearly a million known species
as our planet’s life support system, healthy oceans are essential to human existence
plastic is the most harmful type of ocean pollution and, every year, millions of tonnes of plastic rubbish enters the ocean

As ocean lovers, we have a responsibility – and the ability – to help protect our oceans... and it’s our goal to make it easy for everyone!

Inline with our vision and mission , by choosing Ocean Mind Coffee you’re playing a part in protecting what we all love, through our daily routine of enjoying great-tasting coffee.

MINDFULLY SELECTED

We collaborate with local and international partners who align with our sustainability values and are committed to making a positive environmental impact through their operations.

With this in mind, our sustainability focus starts at the very beginning of our coffee supply chain.

The coffee beans we use are from highly-credentialled producers and importers with a rock-solid commitment to transparency. Reports and certifications (such as organic coffee certifications and fair trade certifications) ensure our coffee beans are traceable right back to the farmer.

Only coffee beans graded 80 or higher (out of 100) go into Ocean Mind Coffee products.

ENVIRONMENTALLY PACKAGED

The packaging we use ensures our specialty coffee Tastes Good [keeping it fresher for longer] and Does Good [for the planet].

Everything we use – from coffee bags and envelopes right through to mailer boxes and packaging tape – is part of the circular economy, which means it’s compostable, recyclable or reusable.

COFFEE BAGS

Our 80g Espresso sampler pouches might be small, but they pack a serious sustainability punch.

Made from renewable, plant-based materials with a high-barrier structure for optimum coffee protection, our resealable coffee pouches can be disposed of in a home compost system once you’ve ground all your beans. Composted correctly, the bags will decompose back to organic matter within 6-8 weeks.

(If you’re after the official tick… our coffee bags conform to Australian Standard AS 5810 ‘Home Composting’.)

The difference between our 80g coffee pouches and 200g coffee bags is the latter is covered with a kraft paper-based coating and has a box foot, so it can stand upright on a shelf. Perfect if you like to keep your coffee beans in a prominent place to let your friends and work colleagues know you’re helping our oceans.

Personally, we love the clear film structure of the 80-grammers, as the bags show-off our high-end specialty coffee beans !

COFFEE ENVELOPES

The envelopes our drip coffee bags and steeped coffee bags are packaged in are seriously cool – on every level!

They look cool… well, we think so. (We might be just a little biased!)

They do cool things… like keeping our speciality coffee as fresh as the day it was ground, with a shelf life up to 12 months. (As if it’s going to sit around that long, once you’ve tasted it!)

As cool as a [sea] cucumber… keep calm and drink coffee! Made from renewable materials with a plant-based oxygen barrier, you can enjoy your coffee with complete peace of mind knowing each envelope is home compostable.

COFFEE BOXES

I’m blue… da ba dee da ba di… inside and outside…

Positive vibes only around here, because our distinctive Deep Blue coffee boxes are fully recyclable! Yep, even the little paper-based stickers on each box are 100% recyclable.

Made from recycled materials and printed with non-toxic inks, it’s just another guilt-free way to enjoy our coffee – and do good for the planet at the same time.

MAILERS

Eco-friendly packaging all the way! The kraft brown mailer boxes and honeycomb-padded recycled paper mailer envelopes we use are FSC-certified 100% recyclable.

Even the packaging tape we use is crafted from 100% recycled paper. Acid-free, with water-based ink and plant-based [rice] adhesive, our paper tape doesn’t need to be removed from cardboard boxes before recycling (unlike plastic-based packaging tape).

Feel free to throw these mailers straight into your recycle bin, or reuse them for your own requirements.

SHIPPING LABELS

Yep, even our thermal-printed shipping labels are printed on fully-recyclable paper!
